Shorter still when you go off the rails in public and no-one's there to help you. Yes, he's a ""woman-beating buffoon", if you like. He was a dim lad from Newcastle but he had a wonderful talent. Remember his beautiful goal for England against Scotland at Euro '96? (I was there.) Unfortunately he had no one to keep him on the straight and narrow and talk sense to him (well Five Bellies and Danny Baker weren't going to were they?), so he pissed away the talent and the money he made from it. I was surprised to learn that he is still only forty. Some long years left in the twilight unless he drinks himself to death. Perhaps the "football family" will help him now.
